Overview

Studio VIII is a fully custom headless e-commerce storefront built for a jewelry brand using TypeScript, React, Next.js, and Tailwind CSS. The site integrates directly with Shopify’s headless APIs, allowing Shopify to handle commerce and product management while the entire customer-facing experience is custom-built from the ground up. The project includes a storefront, product and collection experiences, promotional automation, image handling, security protections, and a fully functional shopping flow. The goal was to retain Shopify’s e-commerce infrastructure without being constrained by a traditional Shopify theme.

Project Details

Studio VIII is a production headless e-commerce platform that I built using TypeScript, React, Next.js, and Tailwind CSS, with Shopify powering the commerce layer through its headless APIs. Instead of relying on a traditional Shopify theme, I built the customer-facing storefront as a fully custom application, which gave me much more control over the user experience, performance, SEO, and overall architecture of the site.

The storefront handles product and collection data through Shopify, while the cart was built directly into the custom frontend and connects seamlessly into Shopify’s checkout system. This keeps the shopping experience fast and consistent while still using Shopify for secure checkout, order processing, inventory, transactional emails, and the rest of the underlying commerce infrastructure.

A large part of the project also focused on production reliability and protection. I implemented rate limiting, bot protection, multiple security safeguards, deployment infrastructure, advanced analytics, automated promotions, and supporting integrations designed to make the site stable and maintainable in a real-world environment. The frontend is structured around reusable React components and responsive Tailwind styling, with Next.js handling the application architecture, rendering, routing, and SEO.

SEO was one of the areas I focused on heavily. The site achieved a perfect SEO score, and within its first day of being live it was already ranking ninth for one of its broader target search terms. Being able to control the frontend directly made it possible to fine-tune metadata, page structure, rendering behavior, performance, and discoverability without being restricted by a prebuilt theme.

Studio VIII was also a project I genuinely enjoyed beyond the development work. I really like the jewelry itself, and I ended up purchasing a piece from the store for my mother. Being able to use the complete system I had built, from browsing the custom storefront, to adding an item to the cart, going through Shopify checkout, and receiving the order, made the project especially satisfying.
